Sir Roy Strong was asked by Prince Charles to design the hedges and topiary at Highgrove House in 1989 when the garden was being restyled.
Speaking from his own Laskett Gardens in Herefordshire, Sir Roy said that the Highgrove garden will "go down as one of the most remarkable gardens in the country".
"His Royal Highness wanted topiary and hedges in the arts and crafts tradition, rather Edwardian."
He added: "It's a mirror of his own enthusiasm, it's organic, it's committed to the preservation of wildflowers, there's a passion about energy and recycling."
