Ur Write the online networking website for writers said they are very pleased that Mark Childress has won the 2014 Harper lee Award for Alabama’s Distinguished Writer of the year award and feel this will encourage the younger generation of writers that they can succeed in the writing industry if they become dedicated like Mark Childress.
Mark Childress who has worked as a writer and journalist in the Southeast, will receive the award in Monroeville on the 25th April 2014 said he was overwhelmed to win the award.
The award includes a bronze of the Old Monroe County Courthouse, one of the settings of Lee’s Book “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and a $5,000 honorarium. Recent recipients include Gay Talese, Fannie Flagg and Winston Groom.
Mark Childress writing work includes seven novels which includes Crazy in Alabama and three children’s books as well as numerous articles and reviews.
