Queen jokes with Antarctic trekkers

The Queen jokes that it sounded "rather rough" that an injured serviceman had been told to bring a gift as she met a group soldiers who are setting off on a race to the South Pole 7:34PM GMT 13 Nov 2013

Three teams of Walking With The Wounded trekkers were introduced to the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh by Prince Harry at Buckingham Palace today.

The Prince, who is the charity's patron, will race with the UK team of injured soldiers as they battle it out on the frozen wasteland this winter.

He took the opportunity to show his grandparents some of the kit they will be taking with them.

Actor Dominic West, who starred in the hit US TV show The Wire, will join the Commonwealth team in the South Pole Allied Challenge 2013 against groups from the UK and the US.

The Walking With The Wounded teams are making their final preparations for the 200-mile expedition before they set off on Sunday.
