Autumn Statement: Most voters believe George Osborne's announcements will make them WORSE off

PA

George Osborne’s Autumn Statement has backfired with a majority of voters saying it will make them WORSE off.

Three out of five said he was helping the wealthy while 51% said they would be out of pocket, the snap survey found.

And almost twice as many people, 40%, agree with Labour that Mr Osborne is out of touch with the cost of living crisis than thinks he is turning the economy around, according to the damning poll by Ipsos Mori.

Nearly half, 47%, said the rich would benefit while 42% believe his plans are bad for

Autumn statement: George Osborne refuses to learn the lessons of the past

George Osborne (L) and Danny Alexander (R) leave the Treasury in central LondonGetty

The Chancellor likes to talk about taking 'tough decisions' and 'cleaning up Labour's mess'.  Truth be told, he does neither.

From the national level - where our debt continues to rise - to the family level - where schemes like Help-to-Buy are fueling another potentially disastrous housing bubble - George Osborne refuses to learn the lessons of the past.

Voters believe our political elite collectively failed to spot the dangers of an economy built on debt.

Hard working families have paid a heavy price for government mistakes. They are

Duchess of Cambridge says Prince George is 'growing very fast'

Four months after their son was born, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a problem familiar to any new parent: the constant need for bigger baby clothes.

During a visit to a charity for ex-offenders, the Duchess gratefully accepted a baby vest from a former burglar, saying it would come in handy because Prince George is “growing up very fast”.

The youngest member of the Royal family was left at home at Kensington Palace as the Duke and Duchess carried out only their third joint engagement since their son was born in July.

Inevitably, however, he was never far from their thoughts as they met reformed criminals at Only Connect in London.

Aaron Russell-Andrews, 22, who has started a career in acting after being helped by the charity, handed the Duchess a vest top sized three to six months with the charity’s logo and the name Prince George printed on it.

Duchess of Cambridge stops traffic with new hairstyle

The Duchess told him it would be “a very good fit as he is growing up very fast”, adding that “he’ll like it”.

Mr Russell-Andrews’s 20-month-old daughter Teegan was less generous, however, trying to grab the top back from the Duchess, who laughed and said: “They’re very demanding at this age.”

Teegan then burst into tears when the Duke of Cambridge started speaking to her father, but she was not the only one who seemed overawed by the occasion.

Andrew Brown, a former gang member, admitted after being introduced to the Duchess that he was “shaking” and that he was “a bit of a royalist”.

The Duchess, wearing an Orla Kiely bird print dress that she previously wore on an engagement in Oxford last year, spent several minutes chatting to Mr Russell-Andrews, from Camden, north London, who admitted to committing “a crime a day” as a teenager.

He said: “The Only Connect group saw me as vulnerable and I was referred from a youth club.

“They wanted to take me on a different path to a life of burglary and robbery.

“I’m so grateful they stepped in. It shows how far I have come, I’ve come a long, long way. This place means a lot to me.”

The charity has worked with 10,000 young people and hundreds of adult offenders and claims to have reduced re-offending by 50 per cent in those it has helped.

One of its trustees is Lady Jane Fellowes, the Duke’s aunt, who said she was “delighted” the royal couple had made the trip.

The Duke and Duchess also saw the work of several other groups working under the charity's umbrella. Karis Barnard, who runs the OC Central, helping ex-offenders in drama, dance and film, said: “The Duchess told me she’s not as good at poetry but her photography is her passion. If she's going to do anything artistic, it's that.”

The Duchess, meanwhile, met volunteers training ex-offenders to sew with a social enterprise called Handmade Alliance.

“Are you guys sewing on buttons? It looks very fiddly work,” she said to volunteers Nasser Massadimi, 20, and Elise Johnson, 23, who were busy making Christmas bunting to go on sale at the charity's pop-up shop in London's West End from Thursday.

Claudia Calvert, the workroom manager said the Duchess told her sewing was not her forte. “She was saying she's not very good at it because when she tries sewing the needle normally gets caught on the pin and breaks.”

Good news.

Now, stop pumping money in with QE.

Keep cutting the budget defecit and when you balance the budget so that expenditure is the same as tax receipts, DO NOT STOP.

Reduce expenditure further - we have one of the most ludicrously generous benefits systems in THE WORLD and we are far to free with money (and housing!) for immigrants, economic migrants, 17 year old pregnant teenagers and male teens who just no longer want to live at home.

Get expenditure BELOW tax receipts, build up a rainy day fund and then start paying off the structural defecit.

William and Kate to visit young offenders charity leaving Prince George with babysitters

Out and about: Kate and William selling poppies recentlyIan Vogler

Prince William and wife Kate will leave Prince George with babysitters today as they step out in support of young offenders.

The couple will spend this morning meeting staff and young people working with crime prevention charity Only Connect.

The visit is one of Kate's select few engagements before Christmas as she focuses on being a mum to four-month-old George.

In a trip that will thrust the work of the charity into the spotlight, she and William will look round Only Connect's central London head office and also watch a dance performance.

The organisation reaches 10,000 young people every year and their projects have been shown to reduce re-offending by half.

Helping former offenders is a cause close to William's heart.

He is patron of the St Giles Trust which helps ex prisoners get back on their feet and he visited their Camberwell offices earlier this month.

Kate, 31, will carry out a handful of engagements before Christmas as she focuses on being a hands-on mum to baby George.

Tomorrow she will make a solo visit to a forum in central London for her children's counselling charity Place2Be, which she became patron of in April.

William, however, has scaled up his royal duties since leaving the armed forces in September.

He has carried out several solo engagements in the past two months and also stepped in for the Queen at two investitures.

Prince George christening: William and Kate choose Zara Tindall and six close friends as godparents

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with their son

William and Kate have chosen just one member of the royal family and six close pals to be godparents to Prince George.

Zara Tindall is one of seven people who will become the tot’s godparents at this afternoon’s ceremony at St James’s Palace.

Included in the list of names hand-picked by the Duke and Duchess is a close friend of William’s mum Princess Diana, Julia Samuel.

Oliver Baker, who attended St Andrew’s University with the couple is also on the list, along with Kate’s Marlborough College chum Emilia Jardine-Paterson.

Earl Grosvenor, son of the Duke of Westminster, and William’s childhood friend William van Cutsem have also been asked.

Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, former private secretary to the Duke and Duchess and Prince Harry from 2005 to 2012 and current part-time principal private secretary, is the final godparent.

They will step forward at the service in front of their spouses, including Zara’s rugby player hubby Mike Tindall, and just a select few members of the royal family.

William’s aunts, uncles and cousins, apart from Zara, have been left off the guest list.

Prince George to be christened today

Bell is renowned for his images of Hollywood stars and rock and pop legends like Sir Paul McCartney, actress Scarlett Johansson and former England footballer David Beckham.

The photographs taken after the ceremony will be historic images that are expected to capture four generations of the royal family together.

The pictures will show the Queen with three future monarchs - Charles, William and George.

It will echo the picture taken in July 1894 during the christening of the future Edward VIII, showing the royal baby with his father, later George V, grandfather, the future Edward VII, and great grandmother, Queen Victoria.

Bell's images have been featured in the National Portrait Gallery and published in glossy magazines like Vogue and Vanity Fair.

In past decades, senior royal babies - the Queen, Charles and William - have been christened at Buckingham Palace.

But the Cambridges have chosen the Chapel Royal, where the coffin of the Duke's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, lay before her funeral.

Princess Beatrice was the last well known royal baby to be christened at St James's Palace, in December 1988.

George will be christened in a replica of the intricate lace and satin christening gown made for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Victoria, the Princess Royal, in 1841.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex's son, Viscount Severn, became the first royal baby to wear the new robe at his christening in 2008.
