Prince Charles and Prince William appeal for an end to poaching during London zoo visit
The Duke of Cambridge declared his new United for Wildlife project can make a real difference to animal conservation as he marvelled at London Zoo's star attractions - the tigers.
William was joined by his father, the Prince of Wales, as he convened the first official meeting of the umbrella organisation he has assembled to help tackle the threat to the world's wildlife.
Before the talks began, the two men - who are both passionate about conservation - toured the tiger enclosure and got close to some of the big cats that face an uncertain future in the wild.
During the tour, the Duke spoke about his plans for United for Wildlife, saying he wanted to get conservation leaders and experts around the table.
He added that he wanted to get "them in one room to focus their energy and their commitment to one cause - particularly obviously this illegal wildlife trade at the moment is such a big issue".

13 Nov 2013"The idea was that United for Wildlife can progress and we can really start the ball rolling and the momentum and really try and change and tackle this issue," he said.
William went on: "Education is the most important thing as we saw with the shark fin soup campaign - the more education, the more obviously we can put out there and show people and educate them on what they're buying and what they're seeing and really try and change their attitudes.
"I think we've got a real chance of changing the way things are going."

Prince William performs alongside Jon Bon Jovi
The Duke of Cambridge joined Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift on stage at a charity gala to perform - complete with what looked like an air guitar.

The trio met on the red carpet, which was actually blue in line with the night's winter theme, before they took to the stage to perform Livin' on a Prayer. There was speculation last night that the second in line to the throne also used an air guitar for his performance.
The Duke joked he would start twerking as he met young people who had been helped by the charity, at the event at Kensington Palace.

Jon Bon Jovi: Prince William has got 'it'
The Duke of Cambridge has a good singing voice and should do a charity single, according to rock superstar Jon Bon Jovi.
Bon Jovi praised the Duke's tuneful notes after he joined him, along with Taylor Swift, on stage to sing an impromptu version of Livin' on a Prayer at a charity event.
And after his crowd pleasing performance, the Duke could find he is now in high demand, with Bon Jovi saying he would be keen to make a charity single with the Duke.
"His Royal Highness had 'it'," he said. "If he ever wants to give up his day job, we could do a charity single for Centre Point and the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation."
"He was a great sport and I can assure you all the man can sing."

Prince William joins in parachute game
The Duke of Cambridge met 30 winners of the Diana Award, which set up in his mother's memory to encourage young people to tackle social issues.
Among them was 12-year-old Tyreese Garrod, from Newham, east London, whose 12-year-old cousin killed himself after being badly bullied.
The duke signed a huge anti-bullying poster which has travelled the country with the words "Be strong! William".
Tessy Ojo, chief executive of the Diana Award, said it was a thrill for the young people to meet the prince.
"We are taking a stand against bullying and having Prince William's support that is inspiring."

William and Kate to visit young offenders charity leaving Prince George with babysitters
Prince William and wife Kate will leave Prince George with babysitters today as they step out in support of young offenders.
The couple will spend this morning meeting staff and young people working with crime prevention charity Only Connect.
The visit is one of Kate's select few engagements before Christmas as she focuses on being a mum to four-month-old George.
In a trip that will thrust the work of the charity into the spotlight, she and William will look round Only Connect's central London head office and also watch a dance performance.
The organisation reaches 10,000 young people every year and their projects have been shown to reduce re-offending by half.
Helping former offenders is a cause close to William's heart.
He is patron of the St Giles Trust which helps ex prisoners get back on their feet and he visited their Camberwell offices earlier this month.
Kate, 31, will carry out a handful of engagements before Christmas as she focuses on being a hands-on mum to baby George.
Tomorrow she will make a solo visit to a forum in central London for her children's counselling charity Place2Be, which she became patron of in April.
William, however, has scaled up his royal duties since leaving the armed forces in September.
He has carried out several solo engagements in the past two months and also stepped in for the Queen at two investitures.

Prince William shows off his 'useless' video gaming skills
Despite lamenting his own "useless" video gaming skills, the Duke of Cambridge was brave enough to put them to the test in front of a room of onlookers today.
Prince William, who was visiting Bafta today to launch its Give Something Back appeal, also road-tested several games while attending Bafta's Young Game Designers Workshop.
"The UK's gaming industry is one of the strongest in the world," he said.
"Our developers are more in demand than ever before, so I hope the young people take inspiration from today's workshop, and get a taste for what a career in games might be like.
"I know that I, for one, as an enthusiastic but quite useless gamer, look forward to playing the weird and wonderful games which these young people dream up in the future."

The Give Something Back campaign calls on industry heavyweights to mentor and support talented young people wanting to break into the film, television and gaming industries.
"Today, more than ever, young people and career-starters need nurture and support to achieve their potential and to succeed," Prince William said.
"This includes the chance to learn from, and work side by side with the best in the business.
"Give Something Back is a special opportunity for our supremely talented professionals to offer a small amount of their time, or money, to contribute to Bafta's learning programme."

Prince William says he'd love to have new PlayStation 4 - if Kate will let him
The Duke of Cambridge wistfully admitted he would love to buy Sony's latest games console, but suggested the Duchess of Cambridge might have other ideas following the birth of their son Prince George.
The Duke was shown the new PlayStation 4 at an event to promote careers in film, television and gaming, and said he was an "enthusiastic but useless" gamer.
"It's very addictive," he said, as he was shown the £349.99 console that goes on sale later this month. "I'd like to get one but I'm not sure how my wife would feel about it."
The Duke tried his hand at three video games made by British teenagers during his visit to the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in London.
Endorsing the Give Something Back campaign, which encourages children to aim for careers in the industry, he said: "Our developers are more in demand than ever before, so I hope the young people take inspiration from today's workshop, and get a taste for what a career in games might be like.

The second in line to the throne met three BAFTA Young Game Designers competition winners and tried out their games. Among them was Dan Pearce, 19, from Maidenhead, Berkshire, who has created a game called Hamster World Domination, which involved the Duke trying to rescue a Princess. He was quickly knocked down by a foe.
The second game, Vacuum Panic, created by Charlie Hutton-Pattemore, 16, from Taunton, Somerset, involves contestants aiming to clean at least 70 per of the house before Mum gets back . "Fifty two per cent clean. Not that clean really," said the Duke after having a go.
He also tried out Smiley Dodgems, a game created by Christopher Purdy, 14, from Horsham, West Sussex.
"How did you do?" asked Amanda Berry, BAFTA's chief executive. "Terrible," said the Duke, who is BAFTA's president.
He also met talented young film, TV, and gaming students who have received industry-funded Prince William scholarships to train for their future careers.
"It's really changed my life and set me up," said Sam Hughes, 25, from Hockley, Essex, whose £5,900 tuition fees for a postgraduate course in postproduction with sound design have been paid by the Warner Bros film studio.
The Duke said: "As president of BAFTA, I'm delighted to be here to launch its Give Something Back campaign, and I sincerely hope everyone working in the UK film, television and games industries will support this fantastic new initiative.

Prince William to witness breast reconstruction
The Duke of Cambridge’s mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, once witnessed Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub operating on the hole-in-the-heart boy Arnaud Wambo at Harefield Hospital, Middlesex.
Next week, as the president of the Royal Marsden hospital in London, Prince William will also be donning a hygenic face mask and surgical gown when he is due to witness a breast reconstruction and removal of a bladder tumour on November 7.
I am told that his wife, Kate, will not be accompanying him.
Transparency
Jackie Ashley writes in The Guardian that the BBC’s “two most prominent political journalists, Andrew Neil and Nick Robinson, are not exactly card-carrying members of the Socialist Workers’ Party.”

13 Oct 2013The daughter of Baron Ashley of Stoke goes on to mention how Graham Norton “trousers” a £2.6 million salary, but chooses not to make any mention of another prominent BBC employee, Andrew Marr, who also happens to be her husband. When I ask her to address the issue of his political allegiances and his pay package (it has been speculated that it is in the region of £3 million) she chooses not to respond.
Still, as she adds in her piece – a rant against Grant Shapps, the Conservative Party chairman, for trying to get the BBC to behave in a more professional and impartial manner – “absolute transparency” is not always practicable.
Joanna adds her name to the list
Happy news for Lord Thurlow: his son, Nicholas Hovell-Thurlow-Cumming-Bruce, 27, is engaged. The amiable engineer is to marry Joanna Heriot Maitland, a 28-year-old teacher, at her family home in Perthshire, where his mother once lived.
“My mother’s association with Fossoway Lodge, which is now Joanna’s parents’ home, makes it the perfect venue,” Nicholas tells Mandrake.
It’s unlikely his fiancee will want to add her surname to his. “It’s long enough already,” Lord Thurlow sighs.
