Constance Briscoe trial jury discharged after failing to reach verdict
The jury trying part-time judge Constance Briscoe over charges that she lied to police investigating the Chris Huhne speeding points case has been discharged after failing to reach verdicts.
Briscoe, a 56-year-old barrister, from Clapham, south west London, denies three counts of intending to pervert the course of justice.
The jury of six women and five men had been deliberating since Wednesday at Southwark Crown Court but were discharged after failing to reach verdicts on any counts.
Briscoe is accused of providing police with two inaccurate statements about her role as an intermediary between then Energy Secretary Chris Huhne's estranged wife Vicky Pryce and reporters in revealing details of the speeding points saga.
She is also accused of producing an altered copy of a statement and then deliberately getting a document expert to view the wrong version of the statement.

Australian Open 2014: 'Dom the bom' Inglot still furious a decade after failing to beat Andy Murray
Ask a casual tennis fan to identify the five Britons who entered the men’s doubles here, and the one most likely to draw blank looks would be Dominic “Dom The Bomb” Inglot.
Jamie Murray is a member of tennis’s first family, Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins have been Davis Cup regulars, and Jonny Marray won Wimbledon in 2012. Whereas Inglot’s biggest claim to fame used to be that he acted as Paul Bettany’s body double in a Hollywood film, also called Wimbledon.
But all that will change, in time, if Inglot – a 6ft 4in behemoth with a 140mph serve – continues to be the last man standing in these events. It is now a year since any of the other British men outperformed him at a grand slam.
Having come into the Australian Open as British No 1 in doubles – a title he claimed for the first time just over a week ago — Inglot and Filipino partner Treat Huey scored a fine win on Sunday over seventh seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi. They will play in the quarter-finals tonight.
Asked yesterday whether the No 1 ranking was important to him, the ever-chatty Inglot replied: “Absolutely. I’m going to be using that when I go back to the bars and try to find girls.” Will that work? “I hope so! I’ve never had the opportunity before unless I lied, and some girls are good at reading a lie.”

Inglot could be an outside shot for Davis Cup selection when the team to face the USA is announced on Tuesday, though he admits that Fleming is likely to be ahead of him in the queue. “It’s not just about playing well, but playing well together,” he said. “Andy

Coroner warns of online messaging dangers after death of teenager
A coroner has warned of the dangers of online messages after a teenager killed himself because of bullies on Facebook.
Lewis Thelwall, 19, was sent "malicious" messages by two young women who had "little idea of what affect it would have".
Mr Thelwall, who was described as a "happy-go-lucky character", later took his own life.
The inquest heard how the teenager, a forensics and photography student, was targeted for false rumours by other teenagers on the social network site.
He had recently lost his father, which caused him considerable distress.

25 Nov 2013Coroner Philip Rogers said there was a "long and complicated" story involving Facebook messages.
He said: "I can only describe this as Facebook bullying.
"I would urge anyone who uses this sort of social media to think of the consequences."
Mr Rogers said comments made online caused Mr Thelwall great distress, particularly following the death of his father.
He continued: "Two young women known to Lewis have taken it upon themselves to make entries on Facebook which they now accept as malicious and completely unfounded.
"Sadly he was a young man who was vulnerable because of the death of his father.
"The two young women have accepted their responsibility for these messages.
"They accepted they had little idea of what affect it would have on Lewis."
The two women – who can't be identified for legal reasons – have been given a caution for malicious communication.
Detective Constable Lee Stephens described Mr Thelwall, originally from Swindon but who moved to Wales when he was nine, as a "happy-go-lucky character" who was upset at Facebook slurs.
Lewis's mother Tina echoed the warning about Facebook bullying.
She said: "Be careful what you write.
"Behind closed doors you don't know what is going on. They did not understand what Lewis was going through."
Mr Rogers recorded a verdict of suicide.

Idaho school bus crash: One child dead and four injured after dump truck collision
One child has died and at least four others have been injured after a dump truck collided with a school bus.
The school bus was carrying up to 10 children to an elementary school in Idaho when the truck smashed into the back of the vehicle, according to KTVB-TV.
The children, believed to be sixth graders and below aged 11-12 years and younger, were heading to Crimson Point Elementary School in Kuna, around 30m minutes from Boise.
The collision happened at the junction of Happy Valley Road and Deer Flat Road shortly before 8am, the Idaho Press reported.
Officials confirmed to KBOI-TV2 that one child had been confirmed dead and parents had been informed.
It is not yet clear what caused the crash or if one of the vehicles was at fault.

Motorcycle champion arrested after wife's honeymoon death in Dubai
A motorcycle champion has been arrested at Heathrow airport over the death of his wife on their honeymoon in Dubai.
Father-of-three Sean Emmett, 43, was held by officers as he stepped off a plane as police probed the circumstances surrounding how Abbie Emmettt plunged to her death from their hotel room in Dubai.
She was killed just days after the newly-weds had arrived in the United Arab Emirates following their wedding in Cape Town, South Africa, in February.
Dubai authorities had investigated the 27-year-old's death, but found no suspicious circumstances and believed it to be a suicide leap from a window.
Mr Emmett, now a retired professional MotoGP rider, was quoted in the media at the time as saying: "I did not kill my wife – it was an accident."
